What is the International Day of Peace?
Every year, on September 21st, people all over the world commemorate the International Day of Peace. Designated by the United Nations General Assembly, this day serves as a global call to strengthen the ideals of peace and reminds us of our individual and collective responsibility in promoting it.
In a world marked by conflicts and displacement, increasingly exacerbated by the challenges of climate change, the need for peace cooperation is more crucial than ever. Even in countries where peace prevails, significant inequalities and political polarization persist.
What does the Global Peace Index tell us?
According to the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2023, the world has witnessed a concerning trend over the last 15 years, with a 5% deterioration in the average country score. In addition, the gap between the most and least peaceful countries continues to grow, driven by increasing geopolitical competition and underlying political instability in many countries. These statistics point to the likelihood of a continuing deterioration of global peacefulness, and emphasize the need for systemic responses to building peace, and preventing further human and environmental damage.
In what ways is the Foundation contributing to positive change?
At Abrazando Ilusiones Foundation, we are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth, with a focus on those affected by conflict, displacement, and destitution. Our approach to fostering positive change is multifaceted. Through our social action, we support at-risk youth and contribute to their positive development. Simultaneously, we invest in education for sustainable development and dialogue as a means to empower individuals to become catalysts for positive change. Additionally, through our specialized training hub, we interact systematically to strengthen the structures that underpin development and positive peace.
On this International Day of Peace, we recommit ourselves to our mission. We pledge to continue working to address the needs of at-risk youth and to empower young generations for good. By promoting positive youth development and peace dialogue, we aim to bridge divides and contribute to creating a more inclusive and cohesive world.
